IMPORTANCE OF PARENTS IN ISLAM

Parents

Islam commands us strictly to honor our parents, to respect and obey them, to respect their words and opinion, and to be kind, humble and polite in general to our family members. Sunnah and Holy Quran contain many injunctions calling and commanding us to behave well with our parents and family members, even if they are Non-Muslim, and scholars have compiled these into many different works demonstrating the importance of family relations. Severing family relations is an act of corruption that is the sign of the sinful and disobedient.

Healthy family relationships ties begin with “righteousness towards parents”. ALLAH Almighty has commanded us in many verses of Holy Quran to be excellent towards our parents and has indicated the imperativeness and importance of this deed. ALLAH Almighty commands us strictly not even to say “uff!” to our parents, which is a very minor word of disobedience and annoyance. Our respect towards our parents should be impeccable in every aspect and circumstance to the best of our capability and ability.

The Prophet (PBUH) demonstrated this behaviour in the most excellent way after some of His family members turned against Him for preaching religion Islam. Despite all the negativities Prophet (PBUH) maintained good relations with them to the best. Our duties towards our parents remain there even after their death. One of the best ways to honour and respect our parents when they are gone is by being kind to their loved ones. Upholding and maintaining family ties does not mean simply returning good behaviour when our family members are better and good to us.

Rather, upholding family truly means ties to behave well with all no matter what they do to us. Our supplications to ALLAH Almighty to forgive them and have kindness and mercy on them will benefit them. Parent has served us in the most special way by provide their love and care. We should make this realize that our fathers have served us so much that we, as their children can never return or fully compensate to our parents. It should be clear to now that how important it is to obey and respect our parents and treat them so well.

Such in religion Islam there is a great honor and respect a father deserves, yet the mother deserves even more because of the great sacrifices she does throughout the whole life in training her child in a the most excellent and better way. Conversely, disobedience and disavowing to parents is considered among the worst major sins in religion Islam. We ask ALLAH Almighty to bless our parents, to have mercy upon them, to forgive them, and to assist and guide us in fulfilling our duties toward them.
